Our Story
The Birmingham Iron begin their inaugural PSL season in 2027, bringing professional women's softball to a region with deep athletic tradition and a proven appetite for championship events.
Owner Matt Kornegay has spent years helping grow softball across the Southeast through event leadership and his work with USA Softball. The Iron played four road exhibition games in 2026, while the PSL introduced the professional game to the local market by staging its inaugural championship in greater Birmingham.
In 2027, the Iron will play part of their home schedule at Bill Roberts Stadium in Trussville, with an additional home venue to be announced. The team's identity draws from Birmingham's iron-and-steel heritage and the toughness, resilience and determination of the women who compete at the professional level.
The Birmingham Iron exist to showcase the strength of women athletes, create lasting professional opportunities and inspire young players throughout the region. From its first pitch, the organization intends to build a team as strong as its name and as connected to the community as the city it represents.
